New to FPCA? Welcome!

WE’VE SAVED YOU A SEAT

Our seats are filled with young and old, contemporary and traditional, lively and soft-spoken, new guests and longtime members — all on a journey to know Christ better and to extend God’s love within our community and to our world. All are welcome, without exception, as children of God, to participate in worship, communion, leadership, and fellowship. And all are Free to Wonder together. Whether you’re brand new to the Christian faith, a faith-filled follower of Christ, or somewhere in between … we would love to meet you.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ I have questions about FPCA, who can I talk to?

Curiosity is part of our DNA. We welcome questions that bring us closer. From Sunday morning worship to week day social activities and bible study, there is always something happening in our corner of Austin. These are the conversations that matter and we hope you’ll join in. Email a pastor.

+ What time is worship?

We have two services at 8:45 am and 11:15 am. Both services are also livestreamed. From the first Sunday in June through the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, we worship together at 10 am.

+ What is the difference between the two Sunday services?

At 8:45 am, worship is warm and casual. A wide assortment of musical styles and instrumentalists lead upbeat, joy-filled music. We take communion each week to remember the hope and strength we have in Christ.

At 11:15 am, worship uses a more traditional liturgy. You will hear our historic pipe organ, sing hymns from the Presbyterian Glory to God hymnal, listen to our choirs, and worship in community. We take communion on the first Sunday of each month to remember that God meets us wherever we are in our faith journey.

+ Who can take communion?

All who love God and want to love God more, all who trust in Jesus and want to trust him more are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Lord’s Supper, both adults and children.

+ Do you have a nursery for young children?

Yes. Children two years old and younger are welcome in our nursery staffed with trained caregivers. We love the sounds of children in worship, so if you are more comfortable keeping your child in your arms or beside you, please do so.

The nursery is available from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm so that you can enjoy worship, as well as Sunday morning programs.

+ Do children remain in worship?

Yes. To help with parenting in the pew, there are worship bags filled with crayons, coloring sheets, and bible puzzles for young children.

Children may join a leader on the chancel steps for the Time with the Young Disciples. Afterward, children older than kindergarten-age rejoin their families in worship.

Children ages three through kindergarten may go to Godly Play. In Godly Play, children discover the stories of God and Jesus through storytelling, encounter God in a personal way, and are encouraged to respond through art and creative play.

+ Is there Sunday school for children and youth?

Absolutely. We have Wonder Hour classes at 10 am for children ages 3 years old through fifth grade and youth classes for grades 6 through 12.

+ Do you have classes for adults?

Every Sunday morning at 10:00 am, adults are invited to Wonder Hour classes. The current classes are posted in the church bulletin. Additionally, there are bible studies and book groups throughout the week/month that you can join.

+ Do you ask guests to stand up?

No. We look forward to welcoming you at the coffee station, during the “Passing of the Peace,” and in our narthex before and after worship. We hope you will sign in on our Friendship Register so we can stay in touch.

+ Is an offering collected during worship?

Yes. We pass an offering plate after the sermon during each service. In addition, there are a variety of ways to make a gift to FPC Austin.

+ Is the sanctuary accessible?

Yes. Please pull right up into our circular driveway. We have chairs, not pews, so it is easy to make room for wheelchairs and walkers. There is an accessible restroom, please ask an usher to for help.

+ What do Presbyterians believe?

At the core of Presbyterian identity is a secure hope in the grace of God in Jesus Christ, a hope that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, empowers us to live lives of gratitude. Our salvation (justification) through Jesus is God’s generous gift to us and not the result of our own accomplishments. It is everyone’s job — ministers and lay people alike — to share this Good News with the whole world. That is also why the Presbyterian church is governed at all levels by a combination of clergy and laity, men and women alike. Learn more about Presbyterian theology and beliefs regarding social issues.

+ How do I find out how to be more involved beyond worship?

It’s easy! On third Sundays, Pastor Elizabeth and elders are available for those who want to join the church. Come and find out more about what it means to be a Presbyterian and member of this church family.
