Music is a vital part of life at First Presbyterian Church of Austin. We believe music is not a performance, but a way to minister to those who are listening. We use music as a catalyst for deepening our connection to scripture and God. From classical concerts and fun children’s choirs to jazz on Sunday mornings that leave your feet tapping and choral music that takes your breath away, music in this church invites you in and settles into your soul. Find your rhythm here.

If you are interested in singing, playing handbells, serving as an instrumentalist, or volunteering with the children’s program, there’s room for you in our music ministry.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
— Colossians 3:16

Sanctuary Choir

From spirituals to lyrical hymns, choral anthems to scored oratorios, our choir upholds that in the praise of God, singing is vital ministry. If you can’t get through Christmas without a cantata, we have saved a robe for you. No audition required, but music-reading skills are recommended. The sanctuary choir sings at the 11:15 a.m. service August through May.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Members of the Sanctuary Choir will be joining the Prague Choral Festival in July 2020! Consider becoming a member of choir this fall/spring to be a part of this opportunity.

AN Invitation to Sing in the Summer
2019 Dates: June 23 • July 7 • July 14 • August 4

If you are more of an occasional singer, or maybe you have more free time in the summer, the Summer Singers are a fun way to keep singing. This pickup choir sings at several 10:00 a.m. worship services in July and August and is open to singers high school age and older.

No mid-week rehearsals; the music is fairly easy and fun, and the only rehearsal is at 9:00 a.m. preceding the 10:00 a.m. summer worship service. No robes required — summer is a casual thing around here.

Jazz Ensemble

The jazz music ensemble is comprised of talented volunteers combined with some of Austin’s finest improvisational jazz musicians. They joyfully lead the music for the congregation at the 8:45 a.m. service throughout the year and at various times over the summer.

Open to singers and instrumentalists by audition.

Handbell Choir

If you have you played bells before or played percussion during your school years, think about ringing in our handbell choir. If you have no experience but you just love music and rhythms and would love to learn to ring bells … membership is open to new as well as experienced ringers.

Rehearsals are Monday evenings 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the choir room, September through May.

Children’s Music - First Kids

Have tiny singers in your midst? We have a brand new children’s music program here at FPCA! Your kids will grow in their knowledge and love of God through singing, music, and instruments. We always have room for more in our children’s choirs. These kids lead worship with song in special services throughout the year. Register today!

  • Morning Stars Choir (K-2 grade) meets on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:15 a.m.

  • Choristers Choir (3-5 grade) meets Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:15 p.m.

Youth Choir

The Youth Choir leads music in worship several times a year for both the 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services. This choir is open to high school and middle school students in the community.

Rehearses from 5:00-5:45 p.m. on Sunday evenings, just prior to youth fellowship time.

Meet Oscar, Our Pipe Organ

You’ll hear our magnificent pipe organ in the masterworks at the opening and close of our traditional worship service in addition to accompanying our choir and congregation. Since its debut concert in 190o, our Möller, op. 263 tracker organ has been filling Austin air waves with live music … well before Sixth Street became the music mecca.
