Pastor Elizabeth PictureElizabeth McLean
Pastor/Head of Staff

Born a 5th generation Floridian, I’ve also lived in Georgia, Michigan, Connecticut, North Carolina, and New Jersey, and in all those moves, the Presbyterian Church has been my constant, my de facto hometown. I’ve now lived in Texas since 1996 and have finally made the transition that UT mean University of Texas, not Tennessee – good thing now that my family and I call Austin home.

My husband, Harvey, and I have been married since 2000, and together we have a daughter, Susan, who is a student at Anderson High School. Harvey has four older daughters (Mary in Dallas, Alice in El Cerrito, CA, Palmer in Austin, and Kathryn in NYC) and we thoroughly enjoy our time with our grandson, Lucas, here in Austin. Rounding out our family are our two standard poodles, Tango and Saint. We are a family of explorers and look forward to discovering the hidden treasures Austin and the surrounding area have to offer. We love suggestions!

I graduated from Davidson College as a psychology major after deciding that there were other ways to heal people than being a doctor. I earned my Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary with a concentration in Christian Education and was the inaugural recipient of the David Watermulder Prize in Church Leadership. I took Doctor of Ministry classes at Columbia Theological Seminary in Christian Spirituality. I am an intellectual at heart who pursues knowledge and ideas that have a practical use in fulfilling our call to bring God honor and glory. In other words, with a heart being constantly filled with God’s love, how do we best share that love with our neighbors? That is the guiding question of my life and ministry.

I love to learn all sorts of things: painting, cooking, traveling, theology, history, creative writing, preaching, spiritual practices, names and stories of every one I meet. I love to connect others, to God and to each other. I love to dream big and brainstorm ideas for ministry and discern which one God wants us to pursue. I love a good story and a good laugh and suggestions for the next series I should binge watch on Netflix.
